Wood Cross Pulpit: Solid Red Oak, Shaped Like a Cross [A-2]

Many church pulpits have a cross applied to the front. On the A-2, the pulpit is the cross. The whole front is cut in the shape of one, with a second cross in relief on top, beveled to catch the light. No fluting, no scrollwork, no molding. Just oak and the classic cross shape.

The head of the cross continues above the reading surface, so it still reads as a cross with someone standing at it. From the back row, the congregation sees the symbol first and the furniture second, which is the point of the design.

Built to order in solid red oak in the stain you choose, and it arrives assembled, no flat-pack, no hardware, nothing to build on delivery day.

WILL IT FIT YOUR PLATFORM?

Overall dimensions are 30"W x 24"D x 53"H, and it weighs 150 lbs. Read that height carefully: 53" is the top of the cross, not the reading surface, which sits well below it. The A-2 is tall and narrow, so it suits a platform that cannot spare the 36" a full-size pulpit wants but still needs a piece with presence.

Because of the weight it ships by freight truck rather than parcel. The carrier calls ahead to schedule a delivery appointment, so plan on someone being there to receive it and a couple of people to move it into place.

Each one is built to order, so allow approximately 10 weeks from the date you order. For the same reason it cannot be cancelled or returned once it is in production, so be sure of the stain before you commit.

CHOOSING A STAIN

Light Oak #35, Medium Oak #43, and Dark Coffee #37 carry no additional charge. Twelve further colors are available for an upcharge, including 711 Pecan, 128 Chestnut, 147 Tamarack, and 235 Black Pine.

Stain does more work on this pulpit than on most. The design is flat oak faces and nothing else, so the grain and the tone are the finish, there is no carving to look at instead. A dark color like Dark Coffee #37 or 235 Black Pine turns the raised cross into shadow and line. A light oak keeps the grain forward and reads softer in a bright room.
